Over SEK 440,000 in Annual Savings

At the Meal Services division in Nyköping Municipality, the need to reduce energy and equipment costs had been a recurring discussion. After a presentation of Energy Probe, they saw an opportunity to save on both energy consumption and equipment wear—leading to a decision to install the technology in 109 cold and freezer rooms.

"From the very first presentation, I understood the concept, and I thought it was a really smart solution. At first, the price seemed like a big investment, but once we saw the calculations, it became clear how quickly we would earn it back," says Marianne Backrud Hagberg, Head of Meal Services at Nyköping Municipality.

She was absolutely right—the savings amounted to over SEK 440,000 per year, along with a positive environmental impact:

- Energy consumption reduced by 133,974 kWh per year
- 1,380,024 fewer compressor starts per year
- Compressor savings of SEK 306,234 per year*
- CO₂ emissions reduced by over 12 tons per year

40% Fewer Service Calls - and Improved Monitoring‍‍

Because Energy Probe continuously monitors the actual temperature of stored food, it also offers major benefits for food safety and internal quality control.

"I see great opportunities to streamline our monitoring since we can now see the exact temperature of the food," says Marianne Backrud Hagberg.

Even the municipality’s contracted refrigeration company, Indoor Energy, sees clear benefits:
"Communication has improved between us and the customer, as we can both refer to the same real-time temperature data without being on-site,"
says Adam Stenberg, Contract Manager at Indoor Energy.

He also confirms that all false alarms due to air temperature fluctuations have disappeared—issues that typically arise when a door is left open, during loading, or defrosting.

‍"Overall, service requests have decreased by around 40%. Now, when we receive an alarm, it's usually because something is actually broken—allowing us to prioritize our time more effectively. We avoid unnecessary emergency call-outs, which saves both working hours for us and money for the municipality."

Marianne Backrud Hagberg agrees:‍ "Since it’s the Meal Services division that pays for emergency call-outs and broken components, this is a hugely positive outcome for us."

Flexible Installation by the Municipality’s Own Refrigeration Company

Nyköping Municipality wanted their contracted refrigeration company to handle the installations of Energy Probe. This required a slightly different approach, as it was the first time Enclima had not performed the installations directly.
