Energy Efficiency at Scale

OKQ8 has installed Energy Probe across more than a hundred refrigeration units, achieving annual cost savings of over 422,000 SEK – plus a CO₂ reduction of 11 tons.

As a frontrunner in sustainability and energy efficiency, OKQ8 conducted a review of its refrigeration systems across multiple stations. The company first tested Energy Probe at three pilot locations, and after seeing the impressive results, they expanded the installation to 51 stations—from Östersund in the north to Trelleborg in the south.

Annual Savings of 423,000 SEK

The results exceeded expectations:

  • 122,809 kWh of energy saved per year.
  • 1,265,022 fewer compressor starts annually.
  • Compressor savings of over 300,000 SEK per year.*
  • 11+ tons of CO₂ reduction annually.
  • Total cost savings: 422,878 SEK per year.

Initial System Analysis

The pilot project also included a compressor performance assessment to map out system efficiency.

"This was incredibly valuable for ensuring our systems were operating optimally before rolling out the full project," says Urban Liljegren, Property Manager at OKQ8.

Installations were completed in early 2021, covering 103 refrigeration units. According to Liljegren, two key factors drove the decision to implement Energy Probe on a larger scale:

"The pilot tests showed a significant difference, giving us clear reference points for the savings potential. Another crucial factor was the simplicity of the installation process. We were also very happy with the pricing and service. Once we made the decision, the work was carried out quickly and efficiently."

Zero Service Calls – and Minimal Downtime

Beyond energy and cost savings, Energy Probe has delivered additional benefits, including minimal downtime and near-zero service calls.

"When I check our service logs, I can barely find any refrigeration-related issues anymore. We've also seen a drastic reduction in equipment failures. The lower number of compressor starts significantly reduces wear and tear. While the energy savings are fantastic, what we value the most is extending the lifespan of our equipment. "
